Installing roman blinds is easier than you might think. All you need is an electric drill, a step ladder and about 30 minutes. Read our guides to installing your roman blinds.
Luckily roman blinds don’t get very dirty. Surface dust can be removed with a vacuum or soft cloth.
Roman blinds are blinds that fold or pleat when raised. Each section is reinforced with a light weight batten to help maintain their structure.
Roman blinds can be a great choice for thermal insulation but this will depending on what fabric you choose. In general blockout fabrics will be better for thermal insulation than light filtering fabrics. When choosing your fabrics in our customisers, click on the magnifying glass to see how the material is rated for energy efficiency.
Roman blinds can only be face fitted to your window or door.
At DIY Blinds we offer blockout roman blinds and light filtering roman blinds. They can be controlled using cord & cleat, chain drive and now even motorised.
If you’re installing multiple roman blinds for the same room, we recommend selecting “uniform” batten alignment when ordering. This will create a uniform look and ensure the panels line up (assuming the tops of your windows are all the same height).
If you don’t select this, we’ll choose the best location for each batten depending on the size of your window – but even if your windows are all the same size, this could vary slightly.
Roman blinds are easy to maintain. Book a free consult with our design experts to help choose fabrics that will suit your needs.
There are 4 ways you can control the way your roman blinds open and close. Just select your preferred method of control when you’re customising your roman blind.
Cord and cleat: This is the most common and traditional way of controlling roman blinds. To raise the blinds, simply pull the cord and once the blinds are at your preferred height you wind the cord around a cleat (or hook) on the window frame.
Cord lock: this is similar to a cord and cleat, except instead of winding the cord around the cleat just tug the cord to the side to lock it. This cord lock is also seen in many Venetian blinds.
Chain drive: this is the type of control you might be used to seeing on roller blinds. It’s a connected length of chain that you pull to either raise or lower the blinds.
Motorisation: automate your life and enjoy hands-free living with motorised roman blinds. Roman blinds need to be at least 710mm wide to be fitted with a motor. Find out more about motorised blinds.
