Chamberlain Property chose sheers, blockout roller blinds and PolyLux® shutters for two luxury townhouses

Hi Jess, we loved collaborating with you on your two incredible Templestowe townhouse developments. How would you describe the project?

Our Templestowe townhouses are architect-designed family homes, blending functionality with luxury. They feel high-end thanks to bespoke details like our custom joinery, designer lighting and made-to-measure window furnishings.

We designed two completely different floorplans and unique looks for the townhouses. We find it hard to decide which townhouse we love best! Templestowe Townhouse 1 is light and airy, with crisp white walls, natural stone and hardwood finishes. One of the standout details is the curved bench seat in the kitchen, which is upholstered in a beautiful Warwick fabric. We love the luxurious textures of the terrazzo floor tiles, concrete basins and gunmetal tapware in the bathrooms.

Townhouse 2 has a bold green kitchen, soothing grey tones and brass accents for warmth. It features our favourite family bathroom. We adore the different greys of the stone and tiles, juxtaposed with the brass tapware and lighting. It’s bathroom bliss!

Both homes have magnificent oversized windows and private outdoor areas. How important are outside spaces and greenery in your townhouse developments?

Outdoor aspect is really important to us in a build, and we love incorporating greenery. We decided to plant as early as possible during construction, which was great advice from BuildHer Collective. We trained jasmine plants up the wall in the courtyard. They cut through the neutral colour palette, and when spring comes around they will fill the outdoor space with gorgeous scents.

What impact do you think custom DIY Blinds window furnishings have in your project?

Don’t underestimate how premium window furnishings can completely lift a space. They’re great value and a cost-efficient way to make an impact. They are such an amazing investment. We would not do another build project without including window furnishings.

Our linen sheers add laidback drama in the kitchen and living spaces, and they create a warm, cosy vibe in the bedrooms. They truly are the hero window furnishing. Not only do our curtains look amazing, but they feel lovely to touch, and you can tell they are great quality, Aussie-made curtains.

How do your window furnishings enhance light and mood in the townhouses?

Natural light is one of our favourite features in the townhouses, thanks to our oversized windows. Our sheers filter daylight beautifully and add a lovely softness to the spaces, without darkening the rooms at all. They also provide daytime privacy when needed. Our sheers help prospective buyers feel an emotional connection with the homes, especially in the hero spaces. They are a fantastic choice if you’re building to sell. They take the townhouses to another level.

Our blockout roller blinds and PolyLux® shutters completely block light, which helps the homes feel super cosy and private at night. They are also fantastic for thermal insulation on cold Melbourne nights. We love our sheers + blockout roller blinds combo. Can you tell us about other bespoke details in the townhouses, in addition to your custom window furnishings?

We chose ceiling-height mirrors and added skylights throughout the homes, to create a feeling of spaciousness and for maximum natural light. We incorporated generously wide hallways, which feel totally luxurious. They create an instant wow factor when you walk in the front door. It’s important to make a great first impression with potential buyers viewing the property.

Do you have any advice for building a network of people, suppliers and trades you can trust?

We really value developing great relationships with everyone in our team. It takes time and effort to build solid relationships, but it means you can trust the advice you’re given. It helps take some of the stress out of decision-making, when you know you’re dealing with really experienced and knowledgeable people.

Having the DIY Blinds professional installation team come out to install our window furnishings in one day was fantastic. Not only was it a fun experience, but we learned a lot about the install process and got to know the installation team personally.

We have also met some incredible people through BuildHer Collective. We could not have achieved as much as we did with our Templestowe projects, without their support. I became a #DevelopHer two years ago. I got to know some super talented people through the DevelopHer masterclass, like our style consultant Rachel Collard who helped us select our finishes. BuildHer Collective provides a platform for women who are developing property to share their achievements and learnings, ask questions and connect with each other. It’s amazing.

Can you let us in on any new development projects Chamberlain Property is currently doing?

We are currently working full-time on a number of townhouse development projects across Melbourne, including in Middle Footscray and Doncaster. Our Doncaster project is three townhouses, which have been designed as three distinct, sophisticated homes. We can’t wait to share our development journeys!
